Welcome to your LGBTQ+ Caucus Newsletter!

We sincerely thank everyone who contributed or participated in our 2023 Pride events nationwide. 2023 Pride was a huge success among our Teamster LGBTQ+ community, allies, and sponsors.

Teamster participation in PRIDE parades and events, from coast to coast, will continue to get bigger and better with our memberships support and our national leaderships ongoing commitment.
General President, Sean M. O Brien, Human Rights and Diversity Commission, Director, Anthony Rosa, and our regional, and local leaders have our back!

The Teamsters LGBTQ+ Caucus is now represented by Regional Directors, with the exception of the Northwest. We encourage you to familiarize yourselves with our appointed directors by visiting our website at https://lgbtqteamsters.org. You will find detailed insights into their experience and vision for our caucus and better understand our goals and objectives.

We are pleased to report a 50% spike in our membership and urge you to invite your friends, community members and allies to join our Caucus!

The Board voted to reschedule our conference, initially planned for November 2023, to late Summer 2024 in Washington, DC. We are excited to announce that this event will accompany our first-ever LGBTQ+ Union Rally on the steps of our nation’s capital. Moreover, we are working on an awards ceremony, in February 2024, to recognize achievement, trailblazing courageous leadership in support of LGBTQ+ workers .

Stay tuned for more details on how you can participate or volunteer for the conference or any of ourcommittees. Last month the Board voted to endorse the Trans Youth March in Orlando, Florida, on October 7th. It was very successful, and we are proud to make a difference where it matters.

Our political director, Andrew Rivas, LU-533, is working on our contract language project to put forth LGBTQ+ clauses in future Teamster contracts. We proudly announce the implementation of gender-neutral language in the recently ratified National Master UPS Contract. Their contract also included
language stating that sexual orientation and gender identity are protected classes against discrimination and harassment. These simple steps toward inclusion will help build momentum toward having changes like these become standard across all collective bargaining agreements.

Please don’t hesitate to share your activities, stories, relevant news, or updates for union workers through our website or contact the board, or your Regional Director. We would love to hear from you! Contact information is on our website. In conclusion, thank you. Your active engagement with your Local’s activities (wear your LGBTQ+ gear to all your union events!), along with participation in Caucus’s activities is the best way to advocate for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
