Andrew Rivas, L-533

I was born and raised in Northern Nevada in a conservative leaning family with two law enforcement officers for parents. We valued hard work, the discipline to maintain a foundation of respect with others even if you disagree, and a fierce loyalty to family and friends. These were values I carry with me through all my endeavors both professionally and personally. I picked up several others along the way. I strive to maintain an open and honest dialogue with others to establish clear intent and avoid miscommunications. I exhaust every known option while researching and pursuing favorable resolutions. I do not leave others who cannot move forward professionally, personally, or privately on their own.

Work through the Teamsters LGBTQ+ Caucus has afforded me and others a voice at work to address the inequalities and routine harassments that many members of management turn a blind eye to on a regular basis. We have made a significant impression on both management and our coworkers and shown that we do not have to tolerate the discrimination and abuse. We are striving to improve visibility and allyship within our community and our Local. We are compiling and coordinating with local resources for our Local members and our community to make sure that those in need have the support to navigate their own struggles. Work for the IBT during the midterms has yielded political connections we intend to lobby at the state and federal level next year. And every once and a while we have a bake sale.

I personally have no intent on stopping now. My goals might extend to a sunrise that I will never see but I am committed to keeping the lights on through the night. Being considered for a position with the Teamsters LGBTQ+ National Caucus is a great honor and I would gladly accept the responsibilities and opportunity to fight and advocate for others
